Ligonier Highland Games at

Idlewild Park

Each year in September, the clans of Scotland gather at Idlewild Park to celebrate Celtic culture with the Ligonier Highland Games. Here, brawny athletes compete by tossing the caber and throwing the Scottish hammer. Musically, there are competitions in piping, fiddling, drumming and harp. Dancers step for awards in Highland and Scottish country categories. And there are classic Gaelic Mod contests.

The Best of Celtic Culture
in Our Own Backyard

Bagpipe bands will mass and perform on an open field, filling the air with their stirring sounds. There are Scottish-bred dog events and children’s games. Genealogy and history tents enable the curious to trace their clan. Vendors sell Celtic wares including kilts, tartans, jewelry, pottery and Scottish foods.

This year there will be two days for the Games, plus other special related-events all weekend long, including a Ceilidh – a traditional social gathering – where Celtic performers from around the world perform!
